Did you know John Wilkes Booth fled to Charles County after assassinating President Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre in D.C.? Journey along the Civil War Trail that follows Booth through Southern Maryland into Virginia and take a gripping tour at Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House Museum. Interact with a costumed guide, learn about the doctor who examined an injury Booth sustained while fleeing authorities, and see where Booth rested before continuing his escape.

There’s fun for the whole family during a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs game! Take in a baseball game, let the kids run wild at Pinch’s Playground, and check out TrackMan, the electronic umpire system being tested for MLB. Be sure to check out the stadium’s event calendar and mark your calendars to catch Movies in the Outfield, Food Truck Festivals, Fun Filled Fourth and Cornstalkers Trail of Terror.

Seeing the Mallows Bay Ghost Fleet should be on everyone’s travel bucket list. Mallows Bay is a national marine sanctuary home to over 100 abandoned steamships and vessels. Most of the boats were designed for use in World War I, but some date back to the Civil War! The best way to experience Mallows Bay is by kayak. Bring your own boat or sign up for a guided tour. Plan ahead—the tours sell out fast!

If you prefer to stay on shore, you’re still in for a treat. Bring your binoculars and walk along the water’s edge. You might see herons, bald eagles, and ospreys.
