Join the Society for the Restoration of Port Tobacco for a leisurely day of shopping, history tours, music, and more.
Join the Charles County and our partner the Charles County Archaeological Society of Maryland (CCASM) for an excavation and demonstration event in historic Port Tobacco Village. Archaeologists and volunteers will be working on the site of James Swann’s home and business, which was purchased in 1843 and operated as an inn/oyster house for over 30 years. It is believed that James Swann was a member of the local Indigenous community. The public is welcome to spectate or to assist with the archaeological duties. If you would like to participate, please bring closed-toe shoes, a hat, sunscreen, water and a bagged lunch. Tools will be provided.
